Re: Koine majuscule letter stroke order, advice requested

* Writing very carefully and beautifully could be compared to detailed exegetical work on a text and the grammar. It certainly opens a new world for thinking about details, but doesn't help in internalizing the language so much. I would say that writing as quickly as possible is better for learning...

Re: In Romans 1:7, "called to be saints" or "invited, holy"?

... it appears that he is asking about whether there are three addressees or just one, with additional qualification (correct me if I'm wrong Bill). Regardless, I have wondered about this myself in this passage. So have I, I was convinced it was three addressees, but I must learn to be more humble ...

Re: Romans 1:1. Own translation. Grammar check

Kudos, David, for your effort! I do not know if you are a hunt-and-peck exegesist like I am, but I feel a bit of a kindred spirit. The closer to my heart your effort is, because it so happens that my own current focus is to use the very first 5 or 6 verses of Romans, to provide plain folk hunt-and-p...

Re: Koine majuscule letter stroke order, advice requested

It strikes me that "the proper stroke order" for writing would be dependent on a variety of factors, with the surface being written on and the person writing, ... different scribal practices in how strokes were done. Hi Nathaniel! I would believe that you are quite right. It is possible t...

Wow, thank you for so many links, I know where my morning went, I am suspecting where my afternoon will go :) You'll find most discussions of this sort aren't in English publications; What follows might not be entirely "political correct", but here. Doing the dishes this morning, I was ref...

"dated solely on the basis of paleography ... which I understand to be perhaps just a notch ahead of pseudoscience in terms of reliability. Hey Bill, may I quote you? :D Maybe in less blunt terms, I sort of share your opinion when all I find for a given papyrus is that it "was dated paleo...

Re: Koine majuscule letter stroke order, advice requested

Thank you, Jonathan, I feel much encouraged as someone with your level of involvement with Koine-related stuffs would find this matter interesting. A first look at the resources mentioned proves again that I need to learn more. To begin with, how to embed hyperlinks :) other comments and follow ups:...

Koine majuscule letter stroke order, advice requested

This is the challenge: could anyone point me to a reasonably trustworthy source regarding the proper stroke order for writing Koine using a kalamos (reed pen)? Your own experience might be the best we have in this regard, so please don't be shy, we might need to figure out this one together... The w...

Hey Barry, thanks. Only now catching up. Wish y'all had emailed me or something about the username change, I was getting slightly antsy, because until I guessed that my username had been changed, I couldn't log in, and I was wondering why... :P Being me, I would have preferred to keep ''yamaplos'', ...

Re: Luther's translation of αἰών/αἰώνιος

noob disclaimer I am surprised the English word "aeon" had not been mentioned yet in the discussion as a suitable placeholder for the Greek αιων. Probably just my ignorance would see it as relevant... The corresponding article in Wikipedia is at the least rather entertaining https://en.wik...
