Re: Matthew 10.30

Thank you for the link to Smyth's Grammar and especially for the note on the manuscripts. The manuscripts clearly show that in the transmission of the text the simple and periphrastic forms were treated as equivalent.

Thanks again,
Thomas

Matthew 10.30

Hello again - After my question on Matthew 10.29, I now have a question concerning Matthew 10.30. "ὑμῶν δὲ καὶ αἱ τρίχες τῆς κεφαλῆς πᾶσαι ἠριθμημέναι εἰσίν." "but the very hairs of your head are all numbered." My question concerns the periphrastic perfect: "ἠριθμημέναι εἰσί...

Re: Matthew 10.29

Thank you for the clarification concerning the meaning of "without your Father".
I was simply curious about the possibility of an Aramaicism, but all the examples you provided show clearly that it's standard Greek.
Thank you for your patient guidance,
Thomas

Matthew 10.29

Hello everyone - I have a question concerning Mattew 10.29. "οὐχὶ δύο στρουθία ἀσσαρίου πωλεῖται; καὶ ἓν ἐξ αὐτῶν οὐ πεσεῖται ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἄνευ τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν." "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? and not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father." My question ...

Re: John 14.12

Doug - Yes, what you wrote has helped significantly. I also felt that both "categories" of works were covered by "because I go to the Father". I was interested in seeing if there were linguistic reasons to support any hermeneutical conclusions. Thank you for providing them!

Re: John 14.12

I'm sorry but I do not know how to copy your comments into my reply in such a way as to distinguish them from mine (as you did with: "Thomas wrote:" with the text in a different colored rectangle). I'll do my best to avoid confusion. First of all, thank you for your answer concerning the p...

Re: John 14.12

Hello again. I clicked on "here" and added my full name; I hope it did the trick. All right, just a brief introduction. Actually, I am returning to the Forum after a rather lengthy absence. So lengthy that I couldn't remember either username or password and had to re-register with a differ...

John 14.12

Hello - I have a question concerning John 14.12: "Ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ τὰ ἔργα ἃ ἐγὼ ποιῶ κἀκεῖνος ποιήσει, καὶ μείζονα τούτων ποιήσει, ὅτι ἐγὼ πρὸς τὸν πατέρα πορεύομαι". I would like to ask if the phrase "ὅτι ἐγὼ πρὸς τὸν πατέρα πορεύομαι" relates to both act...
