Re: List of Articular Infinitives

If a manual search really needs to be done, or for those who don't have other software, one reasonable online option is http://unbound.biola.edu/index.cfm?method=searchForms.showSearchForm&search_type=showAdvancedSearch. It allows you to search for verses in the NT or LXX satisfying some criteri...

Re: Acts 10:26 The sense of αὐτός in the first person

Oh the reason I thought they were different was because you quoted Matt 13:23 without the preceding part and so I thought "ουτος" was pointing forward. I'd be interested to see instances of where οὖτος "point[s] forward". Here are some (John likes them a lot): [Gen 10:1] αυται δ...

Re: Acts 10:26 The sense of αὐτός in the first person

... οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τὸν λόγον ἀκούων καὶ συνιών· ὃς δὴ καρποφορεῖ, καὶ ποιεῖ In this case, the two sentence structures are completely different . Matt 14:2 has "αυτος" referring to &q...

Re: Acts 10:26 The sense of αὐτός in the first person

Yes, I think you've understood my question better than I expressed it... It arose from considering, "Myself, I would eat it.", "I will eat it myself", "I myself will eat it.", "I will eat it by myself". The first would sound a bit strange to modern ears but s...

Re: Acts 10:26 The sense of αὐτός in the first person

My thoughts are; Is it "as well as you" (like any other), or <pointing at myself> (the guy right here), "only" (and nothing more than a man), "truly" (ditto on the "I"), or something else? For Acts 10:26 I would say it's "I am a man just as you.", b...

Re: Koine Greek Reader, questions arising

"εν χριστω" denotes either an indirect agent as in "life/salvation/redemption/sanctification in Christ" or a point of reference as in "hope/trust/one in Christ". In some cases such as "live in Christ" as in 2 Tim 3:12, I think it depends on the context and ma...

Re: Koine Greek Reader, questions arising

Oh I see you meant something else, and now I see what Stephen meant in his 'two-year-old moment'. I think that taking it as "suffering a little in Christ" is grammatically plausible, but I would say that it is semantically impossible, because "εν χριστω" in the NT means "by...

Re: Koine Greek Reader, questions arising

With regard to stretching possibilities, how about taking ἐν Χριστῷ with ὀλίγον παθόντας rather than with τὴν αἰώνιον αὐτοῦ δόξαν? Somehow I feel that it is the article that makes one take it with δόξαν, but I am not 100% sure. Oh I see you meant something else, and now I see what Stephen meant in ...
