Re: Peters' Thesis: The Greek Article

I read the old thread and was surprised to see that no one addressed or even posed my question about anarthrous nouns being 'abstract'. I'd really like to know how one can make sense of that notion. To follow his logic on this, you might want to start on page 265 and work through the examples caref...

Levinsohn: The Greek Article and Exegesis

I stumbled on this delightfully simple discussion on The Greek Article and Exegesis by Stephen Levinsohn. Levinsohn argues that the article is +identifiable . The absence of the article does not mean that the referent is not identifiable. He applies this model to 1 Peter and concludes: The Greek art...

Re: Peters' Thesis: The Greek Article

Hi Sean, and welcome to B-Greek. First a little housekeeping - is it OK if I change your username to Sean Kasabuske? We prefer real names on B-Greek. I haven't read Peters' thesis, I glanced at parts of it, read a few sections on topics I know a little about, then read Wallace's response and Peter's...

Re: Extended Greek Passage to Memorize

And pick passages of the kind of Greek you want to read. If you want to read the New Testament, and don't particularly want to read Homer, then Homer is less helpful.

Open-access textbook: Intermediate Biblical Greek Reader

I have only browsed this, but it looks very promising to me: Intermediate Biblical Greek Reader Edited by Nijay K. Gupta and Jonah M. Sandford This intermediate graded reader is designed to move from simpler translation work (Galatians) towards more advanced readings from the book of James, the Sept...

Re: Imperatives and encouragement

By exploring multiple semantic/pragmatic categories for the NT Greek Imperative you are following the path most traveled by "traditional grammar" which is now obsolete. I hate the expression but what were talking about is a genuine "paradigm shift" it isn't trivial. I'm not sure this is true. I'm n...

Re: Imperatives and encouragement

Hi all, just a quick question on whether it is acceptable to read imperatives such as those in Philippians 4:4 (Χαίρετε ἐν κυρίῳ πάντοτε· πάλιν ἐρῶ, χαίρετε) and 1 Thess 5:16 (Πάντοτε χαίρετε)to rejoice as encouragements and not as commands. Let's ignore all the fancy grammatical vocabulary for a s...

ὁμοούσιον τῷ Πατρί, ἐκ τῆς οὐσίας τοῦ Πατρός

I am comparing the 325 version and the 381 version of the Nicene Creed.

Can someone help me compare and contrast the meaning of ὁμοούσιον τῷ Πατρί versus ἐκ τῆς οὐσίας τοῦ Πατρός? Are there particularly good articles to look at on this?

Re: Mistranslation of Luke’s Genealogy?

I agree with Barry. I do not yet understand the approach to proof in this paper. Here are a few more concerns I noted: Did you propose a test that proves whether a particular example is emphatic or not? An objective test along those lines would be helpful. I didn't see it. An objective test cannot d...

Hi Shawn, and welcome to B-Greek!

Is it OK if I change your username to "Shawn Glancy," in line with B-Greek policy?
