Re: 1Thess 3:13

I think you are making an argument based on context, not grammar, so grammatical terms won't clarify what you mean. You are asking which sense of the word is intended here, "coming" or "presence". That's the most precise way you can phrase it. I suggest you lose the fancier terms 'durative' and 'pun...

Re: 1Thess 3:13

I am going to ignore the theological argument and try to understand the grammatical question. Re: Anyone want to work through Dickey's Greek Prose Composition book?

Re: "Against" in 1 Cor 6:18

I have a question on 1 Cor 6:18: φεύγετε τὴν πορνείαν πᾶν ἁμάρτημα ὃ ἐὰν ποιήσῃ ἄνθρωπος ἐκτὸς τοῦ σώματός ἐστιν ὁ δὲ πορνεύων εἰς τὸ ἴδιον σῶμα ἁμαρτάνει I wonder why all translations that I found understand εἰς as "against". Wouldn't it be more natural to understand it as "in" with meaning "with"...

Re: John 1:6 Questions about the participle ἀπεσταλμένος

"Ἐγένετο ἄνθρωπος ἀπεσταλμένος παρὰ θεοῦ, ὄνομα αὐτῷ Ἰωάννης·" OK, I haven't read all the papers that are mentioned, but let me ask the question this way. This is a noun followed by a clause governed by a participle, NP. If there were an article, NAP, then it would clearly be adjectival, but it is ...
