Re: Translating Athanasius

Take note of the case endings and question mark. The subject of ἔλαβεν is ὁ Θεὸς Λόγος, and the object is σάρκα. So we have God the Word taking on flesh. Not the crying but the evangelist is the subject of βιάζεταί. Could I ask my fellow B-Greekers if I have captured the sense of Athanasius' words? ...

Re: Is. 54:4 neg. particle minus after ὅτι (twice)

Notes: ὅτι is the usual reflex for כי in Greek Isaiah. Greek Isaiah tends to use ὅτι with the meaning "because" more than "that" (about twice as often). כי לא appears also in Isa 7:9; 27:11; 28:27,28; 36:14; 37:19; 38:18; 47:1,5; 52:1,12; 54:14; 55:8; 57:16. The negation does not disappear in the ot...

Re: Jeremiah 50(27): 17-20 poetry or prose?

Is greek Jeremiah 50(27): 17-20 poetry or prose? ... It turns out that identifying poetry in the Greek translations of the Hebrew Bible is not simple. To clarify, this is not a question about classical Greek poetry. It's a question about an attempt by the translator to transfer the salient features...

Re: Κάθισον (kathison)

... It was discussing the meaning of Κάθισον (kathison) and kathemai and kathidzo. I am not worried about the meaning but where to locate an example of the use of kathison. The article said it did not occur in the NT and only in the LXX. It does occur in Mark 12:36 in the eclectic versions. I canno...

Re: Errors In Revelation?

Wars of the Jews 3:214 ὁ (note: ὁ refers to ὁ κριός in the sentence before) δ᾽ ἐστὶν ὑπερμεγέθης δοκὸς ἱστῷ νηὸς παραπλήσιος ἐστόμωται δὲ παχεῖ σιδήρῳ κατ᾽ ἄκρον εἰς κριοῦ προτομήν ἀφ᾽ οὗ καὶ καλεῖται τετυπωμένῳ ... Then ὑπερμεγέθης is at least in my database of Bibleworks coded as "ann m sn", so c...

Re: Psalm 75:11

The LES is designed to be transparent to the Lexham Greek-English Interlinear Septuagint, which has "inward thought" there. Was it also set to more or less use word-meanings given in the Lexham Analytical Lexicon of the Septuagint, which also has 'inward thought' as the meaning of ἐνθύμιος? Or vice...
