²What does "have grace" mean in English? I suppose "mercy" ⁶Did you notice the contrast brought out by the ... μὲν ... , ... δὲ ... construction? Yes :) Why do you feel it would be dative? After looking at the entry "δέω (Β)" in LSJ i think I understand it a little bit better. 2. freq. in Att., πολ...

Ok, a few things gave me problems. 1) οὐ πολλοῦ (i still dont seem to grasp it). Why the genitive? If used adverbally wouldn't it be the dative? 2) δοίην (I sensed it was an optative, but for some reason I was thinking it was 3rd person singular) 3) τῆσδε and τόνδε (your hint was useful, and then i ...

Re: "Unseen" Attic Oratory

A few Questions 1. Why are these two words in the accusative? ὡς ἅπαντα Φίλιππον ποιήσοντα ὅσ᾽ ἂν ὑμεῖς ψηφίσησθε, and this phrase in the infinitive? 2. If it were not in indirect speech after κελεύειν, what mood would ποιήσοντα be? Future indicative,...

Re: "Unseen" Attic Oratory

But, of course I recognise that I am an amateur  and poorly qualified to make that assertation If YOU are an "amateur" then im just gonna go ahead and quit studying, pack my bags, and go home

Re: "Unseen" Attic Oratory

Thank you for your corrections. Let's try this again... Thinking I knew the meaning of "εἰρήνη" I didn't bother with the hint. I should have. Then, he was ordering those speaking in the assembly not to rebuke (revoke?) the peace treaty, for it is not proper to nullify the peace treaty. But if...

Re: "Unseen" Attic Oratory

Ok, this only took about 25 mins, but I could be WAY off in my understanding of what is being said here. I definitely would have forgotten the meaning of ἐπανορθώσασθαι without your hint :) ἅπαντα Φίλιππον ποιήσοντα ὅσ᾽ - I think I understand this....let me know Then, he was ordering to rebuke not t...

Re: "Unseen" Koine Text

Ok, still no lexicon or grammar at this point :) Some of these mistakes I made really made me *facepalm*. χωρίῳ (δοτ) the diminutive of χώρα... so "small countryside/land" or "field"?? καταχθεὶς rather than καταχθεῖσα (so I should have known it wasn't refering to Καλλιρροη) ἀρσενικὸν γένος! I dont k...

Re: "Unseen" Koine Text

Thank you very much for this little "test". Well, this certainly did not boost my confidence any. I spent 1 hour and 5 mins on this and this is what I came up with: Then, indeed, I later learned these things: and then after Kalliroe was lead down into the χωρίῳ, I had good hope, seeing an image in t...
