In Jeremiah 31:21 LXX what is the sense of τιμωρίαν?

Jeremiah 31:21 στῆσον σεαυτήν Σιων ποίησον τιμωρίαν δὸς καρδίαν σου εἰς τοὺς ὤμους ὁδὸν ἣν ἐπορεύθης ἀποστράφητι παρθένος Ισραηλ ἀποστράφητι εἰς τὰς πόλεις σου πενθοῦσα BDAG has only one usage listed which doesn't seem relevant: τιμωρία, ας, ἡ (fr. τιμωρό ‘avenger’, s. τιμωρέω) punishment (Aeschyl....

1 Thessalonians 4:16: Voice of the archangel or voice of the trumpet?

Translations I'm familiar with seem to render 1 Thessalonians as having "voice" referring to "of the archangel" but it appears to me that "voice" is feminine while "archangel" is masculine so the one does not refer to the other: 1 Thessalonians 4:16 ὅτι αὐτὸς ὁ κύριος ἐν κελεύσματι ἐν φωνῇ ἀρχαγγέλο...

Re: In 2 Corinthians 5:1 might αἰώνιον be about the location?

Sooo... ambiguous?

What about τὸ ἐξ οὐρανοῦ in the next verse? Does that imply that it comes "out of the heavens"?:

2 Cor 5:2 καὶ γὰρ ἐν τούτῳ στενάζομεν τὸ οἰκητήριον ἡμῶν τὸ ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἐπενδύσασθαι ἐπιποθοῦντες

Re: In 2 Corinthians 5:1 might αἰώνιον be about the location?

Well ... that would be to treat the adjective as an adverb. Not the worst thing for sure, changes of part of speech occur frequently enough in translation but there is no call for it here really. And semantically here not a great difference : If the building is eternal and it's in the heavens the e...

In 2 Corinthians 5:1 might αἰώνιον be about the location?

I was presented with an interpretation of 2 Corinthians 5:1 that took αἰώνιον to read "a building... eternally in the heavens" rather than "an everlasting building... in the heavens". 2 Corinthians 5:1 οἴδαμεν γὰρ ὅτι ἐὰν ἡ ἐπίγειος ἡμῶν οἰκία τοῦ σκήνους καταλυθῇ οἰκοδομὴν ἐκ θεοῦ ἔχομεν οἰκίαν ἀχε...

Re: Does κόσμος in the NT connect with the OT usage?

The brief article had some very useful insights: * Wisdom of Solomon features usages in line with the NT * the Greeks saw the kosmos as beautiful in its orderliness * the NT's negative usage of kosmos is Jewish, not Greek in origin * John's usage of kosmos largely parallels his use of "the Jews" and...

Re: Does κόσμος in the NT connect with the OT usage?

I have considered some notion of kosmos in the NT having some continuity with the OG if we understand God to be referring to the theocracy as his "jewel" but there doesn't seem to be any evidence of anyone making that connection. But I found this article that may give me more info: https://www.jstor...

Wow, I had no idea you could do that in Logos. Cool.
I wonder if you have to have a certain scholars package to perform such a search. My Logos subscription is basically just the free stuff. LOL
I think it is part of the Base Package in Logos 8.

Re: Does κόσμος in the NT connect with the OT usage?

Just to be clear, I'm not saying that "κόσμος means Judaism" but rather that Paul and John used the word to *refer* to the Jewish theocracy (the old covenant system of things). With regard to this, στοιχεῖα might refer either to the elementary principles of the world as understood by pagans or to t...
