Re: Dickey, Composition: Ch 2, Preliminary Exercises

Just looking at how much she expects us to read from Smyth is intimidating. I haven't cracked Smyth open for this chapter yet. Yikes!!

Also, I thought that she was going to give us a list of relevant vocabulary in every chapter. I don't see a list in this chapter.

Re: Dickey, Composition: Ch 1, Analysis

What is the purpose of the ὅτι in the phrase ὅπως ὅτι ἀπαρασκευότατον λάβοι βασιλέα ? Wouldn't it be exactly the same without it ( ὅπως [...] ἀπαρασκευότατον λάβοι βασιλέα )? Steadman's reader, Mather and Hewitt's commentary, and Crosby's Lexicon on the Anabasis all say that ὅτι + superlative mean ...

Re: Why not start with modern Greek?

Your second question is a yes-no-maybe kind of answer that is best reserved for when the Greek program comes on line. Very briefly, the main funders for the programs have been international Bible translation agencies/supporters and scholarships are so designated. Yes, off-campus is possible, especi...

Re: Dickey, Composition: Ch 1, Analysis

Sorry that I'm taking my time. I just want to work through one at a time as I go here. This is the furthest I've ever worked into the Anabasis. It's kinda exciting!

I am confused by your logic here. Hebrew in Israel? Φυσικά.
Naturally? Of course? Why not φυσικῶν?

Re: Why not start with modern Greek?

The current program only lists Hebrew but a parallel Greek track is planned and will be announced when a final starting date is fixed and accredited. The (not-yet-announced) MA in Biblical Languages and Translation will require both a year of immersion in Hebrew and a year of immersion in Greek, pl...

Re: Aorist indicative with future temporal reference

They do not exist, so why try to understand them? Moreover, why even teach such non-stuff to beginners? Teach them to use Greek and to understand it at the speed of speech. I wish there were an applause emoji on the forum. I stand in utter agreement with you. One can wax far too theoretical about s...

Re: Dickey, Composition: Ch 1, Analysis

The whole text from this chapter:
