Re: Quoting bible verse in biblical greek

Overall it looks good in my opinion. I realise it is a feature of the hand, but you might like to close up the top of the omicrons a bit more. It does look better right-justified and with more letters per line. NB. You have lost ΟΥΚΕΣΤΙΝ from near the end of the second one. You should check that. I...

Re: Quoting bible verse in biblical greek

I dropped Sinaiticus forgery. It looks great on it's own, but for me that beauty was lost when I edited the verses to less letters per line. So I looked to other texts and used what I have learned here to work up a stencil. On the first line I had right justification in mind where i let the "N" be a...

Re: Quoting bible verse in biblical greek

Sprucing up your "forgery" Look at your first line of your John 8:12; The fourth letter Ι seems cramped up against the Λ in front of it - spread it out a little. The supralinear stroke needs to be converted (restored) to a well-spaced Ν. Just say, you want to have 9 characters per line, squas...

Re: Quoting bible verse in biblical greek

I personally wouldn't put the narrator's voice in, only the words of Christ - like what is put on stained-glass windows. If, however, you do put the whole verse, then the line above and after ΠΑΛΙ and above IC are both significant. Not all of what you have in the picture is the verse you want - but...

Re: Quoting bible verse in biblical greek

Handwritten texts generally use abbreviations, which make them quite difficult to read. Well as long as it is not impossible or blatantly wrong I think I'll be happy even if there are some abbreviations. Do you have any specific in mind which are difficult in the texts I have uploaded? Just a thoug...

Re: Quoting bible verse in biblical greek

Thank you for all the answers! I have heard from my teacher that koine was used to be written like this, I just didn't know where to find a good source of how it actually looked. That Codex Sinaiticus looks like a winner. I will not be using quotes, it will just be written as it is (altough I might ...

Re: Quoting bible verse in biblical greek

One thing thing I'll point out is that in ancient times, there was no convention for citing biblical books. They might say something like εν περιοχη του ευαγγελιου κατα Μαρκον, "in a passage of the gospel according to Mark" or ως Παυλος εγραψεν "As Paul wrote..." and of course, no verse references,...

Re: Introduction of myself

Välkommen till B-Greek! Where will you be studying Greek? I'm currently based in Sweden though I will be moving away at the end of summer. Tack så mycket! I will be studying at THS in Stockholm, with Thomas Kazen as my teacher. Ah okay! Judging by your signature (thou shall not judge) I get the fee...
