Translation of the Words Καταστροφή, Συντέλεια, and Κατάλυσις
Is the word καταστροφὴν rendered as “culminate” and the word συντέλειαν as “end” in the below text, or is it vice versa? Or is the word συντέλειαν rendered as “destruction”? Polybius, Histories, book 3, chapter 1, sections 8-10: “Τὴν μὲν οὖν καθόλου τῆς ὑποθέσεως ἔμφασιν καὶ περιγραφὴν ἤδη δεδηλώκαμ...

Re: Finding a List of Modern Greek Bible Versions
Thank you. The five versions are apparently some of the most widely used modern Greek Bibles. I do not have a big project but simply want to see whether the words παρουσία and συντέλεια appear in modern Greek translations of the Bible, and whether modern native Greek-speaking people understand them ...

Finding a List of Modern Greek Bible Versions
I need to find a list of all modern Greek translations of the Bible (translated from the original Koine Greek language into the modern Greek language). I want to see whether certain words which were used in the original copies of the Christian Greek Scriptures are still used in modern Greek Bible ve...

Re: The Words Συντελεία and Τέλος in Mt 24
Thank you. Apparently the word τέλος in vss. 6, 14 refers to the same end as συντελεία in vs. 3. The two words are often rendered with the same English word “end” in English Bible translations.

The Words Συντελεία and Τέλος in Mt 24
Is there a particular reason why the writer of Matthew chapter 24 chose to use the word συντελεία in vs. 3 while using the word τέλος in vss. 6, 14? Is some distinction made between these words in the chapter? Or are they used interchangeably with the same meaning?

Re: Louw & Nida 67.66 - συντέλεια, τέλος
Since the words συντελεία and τέλος are used interchangeably in some contexts, as is evident from the above examples, is there a particular reason why the writer of Matthew chapter 24 chose to use the word συντελεία in vs. 3 while using the word τέλος in vss. 6, 14? Is some distinction made between ...

Re: Correct Translation of παρουσία
Often the simplest approach is to go to a lexicon that already lists the senses of a word and gives examples of each sense. This is one of the first sources to consult. The reason why I have been doing searches in Greek databases is because such searches allow to be more specific in finding instanc...

Re: The Word Συντελεία in a Commentary on the Book of Isaiah
Thank you for the information. I understand that words can acquire different meanings with the passage of time, so that morphology alone does not always facilitate the means of determining the meaning of a word in a particular context. Since the meaning of a word often depends on how people use it ...
