Finding Old Greek-Latin Lexicons

There are many ancient and medieval monolingual Greek lexicons, such as those attributed to Hesychius, Harpocration, Pollux, Moeris, Aelius Dionysius, Orus, and Orion. There is also a big old lexicon called Suda. https://www.roger-pearse.com/weblog/2014/06/23/lexicon-an-introduction-to-the-dictionar...

Finding an English Translation of the Codex Bezae

Does anyone know whether there is an English translation of the Codex Bezae? The only translation which I am aware of is the partial translation which renders the book Acts of the Apostles.

Re: Translation of an Excerpt From a Greek Text

Thank you. Texts which are viewed as spurious are often not translated. So a person has to translate some excerpts from them on his own.

Re: Translation of an Excerpt From a Greek Text

The question mark is put in the middle at Ac 7:52 in Bible translations, but the second part of the statement is still a continuation of the first. “Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them that showed before of the coming of the Righteous One.” (ASV) “Which of the ...

Translation of an Excerpt From a Greek Text

Encomium in sanctum Polycarpum (attributed to John Chrysostom), lines 34-37: “Στέφανος δὲ πρὸς αὐτοὺς διαλεγόμενος Τίνα, φησίν, τῶν προφητῶν οὐκ ἀπέκτειναν οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν; τοὺς προκαταγγείλαντας περὶ τῆς παρουσίας τοῦ Χριστοῦ.” Some words in the Greek text seem to be missing. (The editor marked so...

Re: Analysis of the Expression μετὰ δόξης ἐξ οὐρανῶν μετὰ τῆς ἀγγελικῆς αὐτοῦ στρατιᾶς παραγενήσεσθαι κεκήρυκται

The Greek text is from an old offline version of TLG. You can read it in the Scaife viewer here: https://scaife.perseus.org/reader/urn:cts:greekLit:tlg0645.tlg001.opp-grc1:52 I was not aware of the current state of the new Perseus database project. A search shows that the new database has a lot of ...

Re: Analysis of the Expression μετὰ δόξης ἐξ οὐρανῶν μετὰ τῆς ἀγγελικῆς αὐτοῦ στρατιᾶς παραγενήσεσθαι κεκήρυκται

Thank you for the explanation. I can see that the word παραγενήσεσθαι is linked with the preceding expression (μετὰ δόξης ἐξ οὐρανῶν μετὰ τῆς ἀγγελικῆς αὐτοῦ στρατιᾶς). So it refers to a coming in the context. The Greek text is from an old offline version of TLG. But it must be the same as the text ...

Analysis of the Expression μετὰ δόξης ἐξ οὐρανῶν μετὰ τῆς ἀγγελικῆς αὐτοῦ στρατιᾶς παραγενήσεσθαι κεκήρυκται

Justin Martyr, First Apology, extract from chapter 52: “Ἐπειδὴ τοίνυν τὰ γενόμενα ἤδη πάντα ἀποδείκνυμεν πρὶν ἢ γενέσθαι προκεκηρύχθαι διὰ τῶν προφητῶν, ἀνάγκη καὶ περὶ τῶν ὁμοίως προφητευθέντων, μελλόντων δὲ γίνεσθαι, πίστιν ἔχειν ὡς πάντως γενησομένων. ὃν γὰρ τρόπον τὰ ἤδη γενόμενα προκεκηρυγμένα ...

Re: The Meaning of the Phrase ἐπ᾽ ἐσχάτου τῶν ἡμερῶν τούτων at Heb 1:2

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the passage in question. It is clear that the last days were viewed as already in progress in the first century, in agreement with what is stated at Ac 2:16, 17; Jude 16-18. So different translations of Heb 1:2 can have essentially the same meaning. The phrase ...

Re: The Meaning of the Phrase ἐπ᾽ ἐσχάτου τῶν ἡμερῶν τούτων at Heb 1:2

Since different explanations are given in the commentaries, which of the two proposed meanings would be correct?
