"Hallowed be your name" as a doxology, not a petition

I have been reading an essay Norman Metzler entitled "The Lord's Prayer: Second Thoughts on the First Petition" (in In Authenticating the Words of Jesus, 187-202) in which he takes up and defends a claim made by Johannes Weiss, that the customary view that there are seven petitions in the Matthean V...

Re: Deliver us from (the) evil..........one?

You might want to have a look my discussion of this petition in my book The Disciples' Prayer: The Prayer that Jesus Taught in Its Historical Context. (Fortress, 2015) There is reason to believe that the petition is for divine aid to be kept from doing evil.

the meaning of the aorist imperative in Matt. 6: 10//Lk. 11:

As many here know, J. Jeremias and others have argued that the use of the aorist imperative form of the verb “to come” in the Kingdom petition in the Lord's Prayer (Matt. 6:10//Lk. 11:2) makes that petition a call for a once-only event that affects all history. But am I right in thinking, on the bas...

Re: Matthew 6:13 καὶ μὴ εἰσενέγκῃς ἡμᾶς εἰς πειρασμόν

A couple of things in response to what has been said here. 1. The article on the LP that was published in the Fawcett series was by J. Jeremias, not R.A. Brown. Brown's essay on the LP as an Eschatalogical prayer that was originally published in Theological Studies 22 [1961], 175-208) and then in Br...
