Re: Mark 1:24 οἶδά σε τίς εἶ

This is an instance of attraction of the subject of an indirect question into a proleptic object of the verb introducing the indirect question. It is not uncommon in Classical Attic. See Smyth §2182 -- and in fact, it's not just indirect questions but other sorts of subordinate clauses too, "especi...

Mark 1:24 οἶδά σε τίς εἶ

My question concerns a statement in Mark 1:24, οἶδά σε τίς εἶ. The sense of this statement is not hard to fathom and translations usually render it as "I know who you are." There are some interesting grammatical issues in this statement, e.g., whether τίς is used for an indirect question or as a rel...

Re: Field's Notes on Hexapla for Genesis 4:1

On the footnote 2, it refers to a source "St. Anastas. Hexaem. Lib. VII." I'm assuming this is a St. Anastasia, but I don't know what the source is (Hexaem?). Can anyone help me? Actually, it's St. Anastasius of Sinai of the 7th and 8th centuries. The work is called Hexaemeron, referring to the six...

Re: Having problems viewing fonts? (Call for Guinea Pigs!)

Change that. The problem I'm having is that "Microsoft Sans Serif" font is an old VGA font on my system, so it is not anti-aliased or anything that makes it appear nice.

Did someone request or need this font to be so high on the list before Tahoma or Arial?

It's the .postbody .content style that now causing the problem (ugliness).

Re: Having problems viewing fonts? (Call for Guinea Pigs!)

I think I may want to reduce the size and the line spacing a little though, not much text fits on my laptop screen, and the size is disproportionate to the size of the higher level menus, so if I shrink my browser window down, I can't read the menus very easily. This new font size does not display ...

Re: Creating a "Reader's" Edition

The copyright status of the Greek text of a critical edition is an unresolved issue under U.S. copyright law. (The apparatus and other value-added material by the editor is copyrightable, of course.) To be safe and to be courteous, I would recommend using out-of-copyright texts for reader's editions...

Ken M. Penner wrote:As an example of some typical problem areas, we could use תִּמְלֹ֣ךְ with a dagesh, holam, raised shwa in final kaf, and cantillation marks. How do the various fonts handle this?
As I feared, the holam gets its own space and took the cantillation mark with it.

Re: Having problems viewing fonts? (Call for Guinea Pigs!)

How does the Hebrew look in http://ibiblio.org/bgreek/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=260&p=1074&sid=4f0a20fc4f76993cbdae4c7ed4b263a6#p1064 I think Arial Unicode MS is the culprit, spacing the vowel points. Could we please place Tahoma before Arial Unicode MS in the font list? It looks like fine to me in...
