Re: Life after a basic grammar

So, do you think after only having done a basic grammar, I could start reading a readers version?Which editions do you recommend? I've been happy with Zondervan's reader (although I think I have 1st ed) For someone just starting a reader's GNT, here was how I eased into it: It's a big jump from iso...

Re: Struggling with Participles

I doubt many students would be willing to systematically go through so many examples anyway. How I would treat this is to pick a column and try to read through it, seeing how many I could understand the gist of. Work through the column a second time, and then pick maybe 1-2 examples from the ones I...

Re: Struggling with Participles

Hot off the press: "This booklet provides over 600 examples of phrases and sentences from the Greek New Testament containing participles. Wording is limited to high-frequency vocabulary, allowing beginning Greek students to focus on reading participles in context, rather than wrestling with les...

Re: Struggling with Participles

Hi Alan, What vocabulary are you comfortable with already? Are you following Black or Mounce? I wrote a little software program that can do searches on the NT text based on certain vocabulary and/or grammatical features. I'd be happy to generate a ton of examples with participles that use only vocab...

Re: Mark Illustrated with Greek

I came across this book right at the stage where I was trying to make the shift from "parse word, deduce a gloss, parse next word, deduce a gloss, put the two together to figure out meaning" to "actually read several words as a unit and try to understand them directly rather than thro...

Also, if anyone records a talk or posts their slides/paper online, include a pointer from here! I would love to be able to see what I'm missing out on!

Re: Suggestions for translation notes in software?

Not sure of your tech level, so here's a few options... To replicate this on your computer: - Copy/Paste the Greek text into a word processor - Search/ReplaceAll to replace every space character with a tab character - Copy/Paste this version into excel, now you have 1 word per column - For longer pa...

Re: John 1:1-9

Do you mean something like these? (Worksheets with just the questions for students to answer) I think that since the questions are so directly derived from the text, it makes sense to provide the original text and just ask for answers. A later review of more text might reuse these same questions, an...

Re: John 1:1-9

I created some worksheets to help with objectives #3 (Gender) and #4 (Prepositions & Case). I'm not necessarily advocating students need to complete ALL of them, since a few are just variations on a theme. Types of worksheets here: Identify the gender (or case) of each specified nominal. Some wo...

Re: Formats

I would agree here. Sometimes it's better to get started and produce tangible output, rather than waiting for all the stars to align and have the perfect tech setup in place before beginning.
