Re: What version did Jesus use?

I've enjoyed reading this thread and had a chance a few days ago to read Randall’s paper, regarding the distinction between Ἑβραϊστὶ and Σύρων . I was reading St. John Chrysostom’s Homily V on 2 Timothy. In that homily, St. John C. has a discussion on the contrast between Nero and St. Paul, which in...

Offline Lexicon App

Hi, This might be something everybody but me already knew, but . . . About a year ago I found some dictionary files for use with the Golden Dictionary App. Below is a link to my Dropbox. If you download the app from Apple store, Google play or Windows, then download and install the dictionary files,...

Reading Recommendations After Xenophon

I just finished Anabasis and thought it was terrific - the Greek was straightforward and I'm a history buff, plus a great story. What is the natural step after Xenophon for history? Herodotus? (But I'm not familiar with the dialect). I've read Josephus Jewish War. I understand Thucydides is quite di...

Re: Reading greek of the early church fathers?

I am now working my way through Chrysostom's Homilies on Romans. Now at pg. 218 of 497 - the man had a lot to say, much of it very thought-provoking. Particularly regarding wealth and poverty. The vocab is much beyond the New Testament and Apostolic Fathers. Syntax is much also more complex. For wha...

Re: Uncial New Testament

Thanks, Alan! I also enjoyed looking at the rest of your website. Your intro to the King James Greek Text is interesting and persuasive. Question: My favorite gnt is the sblgnt. Is there an easy way to use your font with that? I ask because it seems līke with msword the accents get in the way and ne...

Uncial New Testament

Does anyone have an idea of where to purchase a New Testament in Uncial script? Not necessarily a facsimile of a codex (which are too much $$). Just a GNT in Uncial script. My reason for wanting one is sort of silly, but I would like to use it devotionally -- getting "close" to the text, e...

St John Chrysostom Recomendations

(Happy Thanksgiving, of course)

What text by St. John Chrysostom would you all recommend as a first exposure to his work?

I was considering his homilies on Romans, but was wondering if there is a better (or more usual) entry point.

Thanks

Re: Greek/English Facing Page Patristic Texts

Thanks, everyone, for the input --- Which books on St, Vladimir Seminary Press are Greek-English diglotts? http://www.svspress.com/categories/Popular-Patristics-Series/. The two Greek/English volumes in the Popular Patristics series are St. Athanasius On the Incarnation (44A) and St. Gregory of Nazi...
