[Dickey] Ch 0: Exercise A

See this thread for general info and discussion about what we're doing here This week our goal is to complete the first part of the book, the pre-work on accentuation, pages 1-7. I've attached a text file containing all the material to be accented, without accents, so you don't have to type everyth...

[Dickey] Group Progress

A group of us have decided to work through Eleanor Dickey's An Introduction to the Composition and Analysis of Greek Prose , which can be purchased online at Cambridge press or Amazon . If you are interested and want to get started, or want to look at a sample before you jump in, the intro on accent...

[Dickey] Group Proposal

I am once again desirous of working through Dickey's Greek composition book with other people. A few folks on Twitter and I chatted about it the other day and at least a few of us thought a forum would work well for this. I'm wondering if anyone would mind us using the Writing In Greek section for t...

Re: Syntax in Josephus Antiquities

Yes, this is a common thing to do in Greek. I don't know what the phenomenon is called, but I assumed it for the purpose of clarity of grouping. If you take τὴν παρ᾿ ἡμῖν ἀρχαιολογίαν as an example, given the fact that word order in Greek can be quite fluid, by putting παρ᾿ ἡμῖν between the article ...
