Re: Other instances of ἀναιρεῖν with a dative?
Ἀνεῖλεν δὲ Ἰάκωβον τὸν ἀδελφὸν Ἰωάννου μαχαίρᾳ Is anyone aware of other instances of ἀναιρεῖν with a (presumably instrumental) dative? The ἀναιρεῖν seems to me to be a word removed from the immediacy of the very act of slaying. The difference between it and φόνος or σφαγή, might be something like t...

κάτω δὴ Soph. OT 968

Re: Edger Krentz cited recently
I cited this very book on page 3, note 4, of my recent monograph. I found the citation in your monograph, The Text of Galatians and Its History 2012 , which I downloaded a week ago. Going to see if I can get a hard copy from some University Lib, for aesthetic reasons I prefer reading bound books.

Re: Edger Krentz cited recently
I remember this little book well, along with several others published by a Lutheran-associated Fortress Press in the same series ( Guides to Biblical Scholarship: New Testament Series ); it was a rather brief introduction to the emergence and general characteristics of the method. Several of these ...

Edger Krentz cited recently
I have been reading books which critique historical criticism for several decades and this morning was wading through the introduction to Politicizing the Bible:The Roots of Historical Criticism and the Secularization of Scripture, 1300-1700 By Scott W. Hahn, Benjamin Wiker Book - 2013 The name of a...

Re: Gal 1:19 James an apostolos?
More on: εἰ μὴ = ἀλλὰ The standard grammars talk about this. Zerqwick §470 suggests the confusion might reflect an Aramaic particle with less precision than εἰ μὴ or ἀλλὰ cf. BDF §448.8. The ICC Galatians (Burton 1920) is quoted below. 19.

Re: Gal 1:19 James an apostolos?
RE: εἰ μὴ = ἀλλὰ A.T. Robertson p. 1025: εἰ μὴ may make exception to preceding negative as in Gal. 1:19 … the effect here is to make εἰ μὴ seem adversative instead of exceptive . G. Cooper “εἰ μὴ is sometimes the virtual equivalent of ἀλλὰ but .” [1] Cooper's samples are not particularly straight f...

Re: Gal 1:19 James an apostolos?
HI all, Working through Galatians and bumped into the verse that Historical Jesus scholars fight over. {sni...

Re: Meaning of ει μη (Re: James an apostolos?)
(Quote from Luke 4 shortened) I believe Luke 4:25-27 uses εἰ μὴ in the sense that doesn't make sense to you:

Re: Throwing away my flashcards
I used Freiberg's analyzed GNT for few years, but not in last two decades. It was painless and the tags were not accompanied with glosses so it wasn't as distracting as an interlinear. I really would like a fresh copy of the omega verb chart in color. The yellows and reds on mine are faded almost wh...
