Re: Has anybody used Dobson for teaching a class?

R. Liantonio, It sounds like Dobson would work well for you. Do look at Shirley's lessons. I've just glanced through several of them and they look good. About the rest, I sent you a private message via B-Greek. Shirley, I've meant to look at your lessons ever since you first told us about it (2 yrs...

μακάριος ὁ δοῦλος ἐκεῖνος ὃν ἐλθὼν ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ εὑρήσει οὕτως ποιοῦντα· essential to an authentic grasp of the language is the realization that understanding spoken and written Greek depends upon thinking in (ancient) Greek And this is just the sort of sentence that ties my English brain in knots...

Re: Has anybody used Dobson for teaching a class?

I've used Dobson twice and loved it in comparison with any other primer I found. But, I've just gone full bore communicative approach this year and haven't been using it. I may yet pull it out for my 2nd year Greek. Or, I'll look at Shirley's lessons to see what I could use. I suspect that what the ...

Re: KOINE PHRASEBOOK

but why "τα περι σου"? Shouldn't it be "περι σεαυτου" (John 1:22)? I took εἴπε ἡμᾶς τὰ περι σου from Eph 6:22, but περι σεαυτοῦ is simpler. mean: σημαίνει. That's what other's like Lightman are using, too. It's what they say in Modern Greek, as well. I could find only one occure...

Re: "DIA" - Is the Rendering "on account of" justified?

William. I get your point about needing to understand this Greek in terms you know, English. What has really helped my fledgling understanding of prepositions is getting a better feel for the basic meaning of the cases. It helps me get away from that unfortunate and messy practice of taking 3-5 Eng...

Re: KOINE PHRASEBOOK

Greeting: Χαιρε. Answer: Χαίρω. Is that right? Or is Liddell listing something really rare. I have no idea how to search Perseus for something like this. κῆρυξ Ἀχαιῶν, χαῖρε. . Answ. χαίρω I accept the greeting, Aesch Liddell, H. (1996). A lexicon: Abridged from Liddell and Scott’s Greek-English le...

Solomon, I'm stunned. Thanks very much. Now I just need to get good enough in Greek that I can scan through these texts like a morning newspaper. Paul
