Re: New Greek Teacher

Adam Denoon, You love Koine and you have a desire to help your students learn and love it, too. That’s the main thing. GNT: Your choice of GNT is good. I use a similar book and love it. Interlinears are unnatural spawn. Recommendation about classes: You are learning to teach a language - not an easy...

Re: Semantic Primes - Fascinating!

it could be invaluable for learning and undestanding. Yes, for example, how about this? τί σημαίνει τὸ προσκυνῆσαι ; οὐ πάντες ἄνθρωποι μεγάλοι καὶ καλοί. πολλοὶ εἶσιν μικροὶ καὶ κακοί. ὅτε οἴδα ὅτι σὺ εἶ μέγας καὶ καλός, ἐν μοι φρονῶ ὅτι μικρός εἰμὶ. σὺ οὐκ εἶ ὡς ἐγώ. θέλω εἶναι ὑπὸ σε. φρονῶ καλὸ...

Re: Ancient Greek Dictionary in Ancient Greek

I bought it. The price is high because it is a well made, quality book, especially the weight of paper. It has plenty of room for notes. If a person wanted to have an sort of "dialogue" with the author in Koine, I think it could be a fruitful learning exercise. I haven't done so yet, but s...

Re: How to search forums for an exact string of words ?

From a 2012 post by Jonathan Robie, it looks like I'm right. Use Google's site search site:ibiblio.org ["search string"] Here are some tricks with Google's site search. OR operator. Google accepts the OR search operator. This can be useful. E.g. site:ibiblio.org "Rom. 5:20" OR &q...

Re: How to search forums for an exact string of words ?

Maybe there's a better way, but I use Google. In the search box, type... site:ibiblio.org ...followed by a string in quotes. E.g. site:ibiblio.org "Corpus Linguistics and the Greek of the New Testament" Here's the result: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aibiblio.org+%22Corpus+Linguis...

Re: Meaning of ἀπέθανον ([all] died) in 2 Cor. 5:14

Yes, probably a matter of interpreting language, regardless of it being Koine.

I don't see any reason to take the two uses of ἀποθάνειν in different senses.

Re: Hi, I'm Friedrich de Wet

Friedrich, Good to hear from down South. The Grammar-Translation method does work for a very small percentage of learners. The rest end up with the same sort of facility with the language as you describe. Communicative methods work for a large percentage of learners. In order to reach reading fluenc...
