Arist., Phys., Bk. I, §191a: «ἔχει καὶ τὸ τόδε τι καὶ τὸ ὄν»
What would be a more literal translation of the phrase «ἔχει καὶ τὸ τόδε τι καὶ τὸ ὄν» in the following passage from Aristotle's Physics ? ἡ δὲ ὑποκειμένη φύσις ἐπιστητὴ κατ' ἀναλογίαν. ὡς γὰρ πρὸς ἀνδριάντα χαλκὸς ἢ πρὸς κλίνην ξύλον ἢ πρὸς τῶν ἄλλων τι τῶν ἐχόντων μορφὴν [ἡ ὕλη καὶ] τὸ ἄμορφον ἔχε...

Xenophon, Constitution of the Lacedaimonians, Ch. 2.1-2
I'm having a little difficulty with this passage of Xenophon. The source of the text is found below: http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus:text:1999.01.0209:text=Const.%20Lac.:chapter=2&highlight=paidagwgou%2Fs#note1 The text itself: [...1] τῶν μὲν τοίνυν ἄλλων Ἑλλήνων οἱ φάσκοντε...

Re: John 10:41 «πάντα δὲ ὅσα εἶπεν Ἰωάννης περὶ τούτου ἀληθῆ
Thanks Barry. So, in this particular verse, would you translate it as "was true" or "were true"?

John 10:41 «πάντα δὲ ὅσα εἶπεν Ἰωάννης περὶ τούτου ἀληθῆ ἦν»
There is a few other examples I noticed in the Gospel according to John, but I don't recall where they are exactly. In John 10;41, we have the plural subject πάντα ("all things") with the singular verb ἦν and the singular predicate adjective ἀληθῆ. What is the reason for there not being a ...

Re: Romans 9:6 «οὐ γὰρ πάντες οἱ ἐξ Ἰσραήλ οὗτοι Ἰσραήλ»
So, we're saying the same thing, it seems, just ordering the words differently.

Romans 9:6 «οὐ γὰρ πάντες οἱ ἐξ Ἰσραήλ οὗτοι Ἰσραήλ»
Regarding the phrase «οὐ γὰρ πάντες οἱ ἐξ Ἰσραήλ οὗτοι Ἰσραήλ», strictly syntactically and grammatically speaking (please, no theological critique or insight), can the phrase be translated as, "For 'Israel' is not all these who are of Israel"?

John 8:23: ὑμεῖς ἐκ τῶν κάτω ἐστέ· ἐγὼ ἐκ τῶν ἄνω εἰμί
In general, translations render this phrase, "You are from beneath; I am from above."
I noticed that τῶν is genitive plural, rather than the singular τοῦ.
Shouldn't this phrase be translated as "I am from those things above; you are from those things below"?

Re: Gregory of Nazianzius, 3rd Theological Oration
I have the Greek and English texts available. I was just curious about the process of Schaff's translation of the Greek.
You guys answered it though. Thank you very much.

καὶ τοῦτό ἐστιν ἡμῖν ὁ Πατήρ͵ καὶ ὁ Υἱός͵ καὶ τὸ ἅγιον Πνεῦμα· ὁ μὲν γεννήτωρ καὶ προβολεύς͵ λέγω δὲ ἀπαθῶς καὶ ἀχρόνως καὶ ἀσωμάτως· τῶν δέ͵ τὸ μὲν γέννημα͵ τὸ δὲ πρόβλημα Here is Schaff's translation: This is what we mean by Father and Son and Holy Ghost. The Father is the Begetter and the Emitte...
