Re: Best way into a self-taught "second year"?
You're pretty much on the same course that I'm on. I'm coming near the end of Mounce's graded reader, after which I plan on tackling Wallace's grammar. After that I might spend some time on vocabulary using Robinson's Mastering Greek Vocab and Trench's book on synonyms, while simply reading through ...

Re: Strange article in Ephesians 1:7
I've never heard of a "by-form" before. What is it exactly? How do they work?
And why would Paul use a by-form when he could have just used the masculine article in the accusative with the accusative masculine form of πλοῦτος?

Strange article in Ephesians 1:7
The construction I'm dumbfounded over is underlined in bold: Ἐν ᾧ ἔχομεν τὴν ἀπολύτρωσιν διὰ τοῦ αἵματος αὐτοῦ, τὴν ἄφεσιν τῶν παραπτωμάτων, κατὰ τὸ πλοῦτος τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ At first I thought nothing of this construction until I remembered that πλοῦτος is masculine and should have a masculine arti...

Re: More flashcards?
But at the University of MN (where I got a major in classical Greek) it was read, read, read, and make a running vocab list of the passage. There were none of the niceties of click-and-parse or click-and-gloss. Each class we had to read two full pages of the Greek text for each class - three times ...

Re: More flashcards?
It's not so much that creating the cards is a nuisance, because I quite enjoy creating more cards (I used iFlash which is fantastic and simple to use for Mac users). I'm asking what the learning value is of continuing on with adding more flashcards for new words. Should a student stop once they have...

Re: More flashcards?
I'm simply asking at what point students should stop relying on flashcards and begin relying more on looking things up in a lexicon. Because if students are going about doing flashcards for every single word they are going to be creating cards for the rest of their life. Especially if they also want...

More flashcards?
At one point should a student stop making and using vocabulary cards? The typical beginning, first-year biblical Greek student will probably be using flashcards for the words they are introduced to in their first-year textbook, which usually is something like words used 50 times or more, etc. I went...

Re: Basic Koine Vocabulary List
I am wondering if there are any lists of basic Koine vocabulary which are based on general usage rather than a corpus (i.e. the New Testament). For example: Numerals/ordinals, etc. Body parts Clothing articles Giving directions Meals You know, the same sort of stuff I learned in my high school Germ...

Re: Noun Case Endings & Verb Endings
The language is taught and then the various metalanguages are introduced. This is an important difference and advantage in language learning efficiency that has been taken from Second Language Acquistion studies. Actually, isn't that how we all learned English as our primary language? We all learn ...

Re: Noun Case Endings & Verb Endings
Alright thanks. I need to ask, is the entire first book of yours all pictures that go along with Greek? I'm assuming it starts with basic words and then onto basic sentences and moves on towards more difficult constructions? You mentioned the 2nd book introduces some grammar explanations, but what k...
