The term "Emphasis"
On page 191 of Steve Runge's work "Discourse Grammar of the Greek New Testament" he has a foot note (#31). He quotes" "The term "Emphasis" has been much abused, being used to justify virtually any thing that a commentator thinks is special or important. . What is the pr...

Re: Modern Greek verses Koine Greek John 1:1
Hi John, HTAN seems grammatically out of place. en is correct grammatically. I was told that QEOS HTAN hO LOGOS (Modern Greek) John 1:1 is identical to Kai Theos en o logos (koine) QEOS HTAN hO LOGOS would be translated: The word (they) were God. HTAN is 3rd Person Plural , if my modern Greek is co...

Re: Colossians 2:17 - ἅ ἐστιν σκιὰ τῶν μελλόντων
I am reading through this and trying to understand this discussion. This is probably a stupi question but I am going to ask it anyways? What is the referent of the Neuter pronoun ἅ in Colossians 2:17? Also does the δὲ σῶμα τοῦ Χριστοῦ stand in some form of antithesis to the ἐστιν σκιὰ τῶν μελλ...

1 Jn 1.1 Shift from perfect to aorist
in 1 John 1:1 we read
ὃ ἦν ἀπ' ἀρχῆς, ὃ ἀκηκόαμεν (perfect), ὃ ἑωράκαμεν(perfect) τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν, ὃ ἐθεασάμεθα(aorist) καὶ αἱ χεῖρες ἡμῶν ἐψηλάφησαν(aorist) περὶ τοῦ λόγου τῆς ζωῆς
What is the significance of the shift from the perfect to the aorist?
Thanks
John

I can see how this could happen. Was helpful.Yup, they would be nicely differentiated in a modern printed edition, but I'm assuming that the original writers didn't write accents. Anyway sorry if my comment was off-topic.

Re: Pronoun demands a referent 1 John 1
David Lim However, I would say that the referent is grammatically not the "λογου της ζωης" in verse 1, but rather the "ζωη" in verse 2, which was "from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen ...", which "was manifested, and we have seen and we testi...

Pronoun demands a referent 1 John 1
In 1 John 1 we see the Neuter Pronouns. The first is Is nominative and the next 3 are accusative. Identifying the referent is the next thought in my study. How does one identify the referent in 1 John 1:1-4. 1 ὃ ἦν ἀπ' ἀρχῆς, ὃ ἀκηκόαμεν, ὃ ἑωράκαμεν τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν, ὃ ἐθεασάμεθα καὶ αἱ χεῖρες ἡ...
