Re: ἔνδοξος and εὐδόκησεν
I’m not sure in what text you’re finding ἔνδοξος in SS 5:16. Both Swete and Rahlfs have ἐπιθυμία, ‘desire’, for מַחְמָד. (As for what the Song has to do with Jesus, that’s a theological issue.) Nor do I see in what psalm ἔνδοξος renders any form of הלל. The only occurrence of ἔνδοξος I can find in P...

Re: ἔνδοξος and εὐδόκησεν
The most obvious difference is that ἔνδοξος is an adjective while εὐδόκησεν is a verb.
The two words are related to each other in that both incorporate the root δοκ-, which has to do with thought, opinion, that sort of thing.

Well stated!Jonathan Robie wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2018, 6:44 pm Then again, I think this is one of those things where the meaning is perfectly clear until you try to decide how to classify it.

Re: Imperatives and encouragement
Your audio book author is one of those hyper-literalists who latch onto a term like imperative and make foolish observations. The imperative mood simply indicates that the speaker/writer wants the hearer/reader to do something. It can have the nuance of a request, an exhortation, a military-style or...

Re: The Genitive affect upon δικαιοσύνης
I am asking if the genitive in righteousness can be translated as "your righteousness" since it is possessive and Paul is addressing people. No, you can't. The use of a genitive as the object of a preposition does not include any of the senses the case normally carries. It's just the obje...

Re: Construing the participle in 2 Corinthians 8:9
Do you mean parallelism? I've always understood apposition as describing two words/phrases which specify the same referent.Jonathan Robie wrote: ↑August 18th, 2018, 3:46 pm The particular phrase you are looking at is a simple apposition:
δι’ ὑμᾶς ἐπτώχευσεν -- πλούσιος ὤν
Whatever the nomenclature, thanks for pointing out this structure.
