Re: Difficulty of the greek of Romans vs Hebrews
It's good that you have a choice, and both of them very good. Most students find Hebrews more challenging. With regard to style, the author of Hebrews uses more rhetorical devices and has a much more periodic structure than Paul uses in Romans. It also uses some difficult vocabulary, both in terms o...

Re: Translating Infinitives (John 2:24)
Nothing is obvious to a beginner, and there is usually no such thing as a bad question... :) However, this is the difference between tense and aspect, about which you will hear a lot more as you continue into your studies. The present infinitive tends to look at the action as a process, not as a who...

Re: John 7:37-38
Okay, here's a bit more context for the text: 37 Ἐν δὲ τῇ ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ μεγάλῃ τῆς ἑορτῆς εἱστήκει ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἔκραξεν λέγων, Ἐάν τις διψᾷ ἐρχέσθω πρός με6 καὶ πινέτω.e 38 ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμέ,f καθὼς εἶπεν ἡ γραφή, ποταμοὶ ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας αὐτοῦ ῥεύσουσιν ὕδατος ζῶντος. From a purely syntactical po...

Re: GJohn 11:26 πας ο ζων και πιστευων
Is order and temporal sequence a valid discussion to be having in regard to articular participles. Doesn't the article do something to them time-wise? In general, a substantive participle has less in view of aspect and more in view of the referent described in terms of the action of the verb. Tempo...

Re: τα παραλειπομενα ιερεμιου 1.3: προ του
I think this is different: here the τοῦ in πρὸ τοῦ is a demonstrative: "before that" or "prior to that". Now it may just be that the composer/translator of τὰ παραλειπόμενα ᾿Ιερεμίου was emulating that construction (I guess there's no way we can rule it out), but it doesn't seem...

Re: How hard to learn Latin?
I enetered the forum a few days ago. So, that's why i have found your questions right now. To be honest, Latin in comparison with ancient Greek or so called koine Greek is extraordinally easy, especially for people speaking western languages, where there are a lot of grammatical construction simila...

I just glanced at this briefly, but it seems to be about the disposal of a will (διάθεσις).

Re: Expressing the Future
Paul, not really precisely sure what you are asking. The future tense is the future tense, expressing that the action or state of being expressed takes place after the events expressed in the text at that point. μέλλει + the infinitive is often used of a more immediate or impending future, "is ...

Re: Intro: Christopher Albert
Greetings, Christopher. The universal experience of those of us who started with classical Greek is that reading the NT presents very little difficulty. If you read Plato, I would start with the Apologia. You might also want to consider Xenephon's Anabasis , as narrative texts are often easier at le...
