Re: ὁ Αμορις in Gen 14:13

Sorry I meant "case" of the article not "declension".

ὁ Αμορις in Gen 14:13

παραγενόμενος δὲ τῶν ἀνασωθέντων τις ἀπήγγειλεν Αβραμ τῷ περάτῃ αὐτὸς δὲ κατῴκει πρὸς τῇ δρυὶ τῇ Μαμβρη ὁ Αμορις τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ Εσχωλ καὶ ἀδελφοῦ Αυναν οἳ ἦσαν συνωμόται τοῦ Αβραμ Although the NETS LXX translates this mechanically as "...Now he, Amoris, used to live near the oak of Mambre, the bro...

Re: ἄν in Gen 12:1

Ah yes of course, I forgot that 1 sg. future indicative is identical to 1 sg. sigmatic aorist subjunctive, the presence of ἄν should have clued me into that.

:-P

Thanks!

ἄν in Gen 12:1

καὶ εἶπεν κύριος τῷ Αβραμ Ἔξελθε ἐκ τῆς γῆς σου καὶ ἐκ τῆς συγγενείας σου καὶ ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός σου εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἣν ἄν σοι δείξω· What does the presence of the modal particle ἄν signify in Genesis 12:1? CGCG sec. 34.4 says that ἄν is not combined with either the primary indicative (e.g. the fu...

Re: Mark 14:67 participles

Very nice, thanks Jason! I like the way you broke the sentence down into its constituents, that's very helpful. I actually had no trouble understanding the sentence upon first reading i.e. I recognized the Genitive Absolute and what the participle phrases implied. I'm just struggling to learn the gr...

Re: Mark 14:67 participles

Ah, thank you Jason, now I think I understand circumstantial participles better. If I understand this correctly, the subject of the participles ἰδοῦσα and ἐμβλέψασα is the identical to a constituent (μία τῶν παιδισκῶν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως) of the matrix clause (Καὶ ὄντος τοῦ Πέτρου κάτω ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ ἔρχεται ...

Mark 14:67 participles

66 Καὶ ὄντος τοῦ Πέτρου κάτω ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ ἔρχεται μία τῶν παιδισκῶν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως 67 καὶ ἰδοῦσα τὸν Πέτρον θερμαινόμενον ἐμβλέψασα αὐτῷ λέγει· καὶ σὺ μετὰ τοῦ Ναζαρηνοῦ ἦσθα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ. Would one consider ἰδοῦσα τὸν Πέτρον θερμαινόμενον ἐμβλέψασα αὐτῷ to be noun phrase (with η παιδισκης as the implicit...

Mark 14:8 syntax

ὃ ἔσχεν ἐποίησεν· προέλαβεν μυρίσαι τὸ σῶμά μου εἰς τὸν ἐνταφιασμόν. In particular the two successive aorists in ὃ ἔσχεν ἐποίησεν. I can't understand the syntax here. What's the role of ἔσχεν here? Which verb is ὃ the object of? And if you ignore the (later addition of) punctuation you've got three ...
