Present Active Indicative versus Aorist Active Indicative
I understand that Revelation isn't exactly the best place for a beginner, but I keep being drawn to the richness of the text. Anyway, I'm assuming the question has more to do with basic grammar than something unique to Revelation. Revelation 12:4a (NASB): "And his tail swept away a third of the...

Re: Help with kai (Rev 12:2)
Stephen and CW, thanks for the input, it really fills in some gaps that now make more sense. It's a blessing to have a forum like this. I'm wondering if I can try and take this one level deeper, if that's ok. Still looking at that final kai in Rev. 12:2. It's clear that ὠδίνουσα (being in birth pain...

Help with kai (Rev 12:2)
Working my way through the Greek in Revelation, and now I've gotten sidetracked looking at the use of the conjunction kai . The translation is pretty straightforward (of course), but how are you supposed to know the function or meaning of the conjunction when it's not necessarily obvious from the co...

Thank you Stephen et al for your responses. I'll now return my tray to the upright position and continue on with my reading.

Re: Grammar question, genders don't agree
Just thinking out loud, if arsen is functioning as a noun in apposition, shouldn't it be articular, as in v13?

Re: Grammar question, genders don't agree
Thanks Stephen, that helps. It still seems like a rather strange construction, but maybe that's because of my lack of familiarity. The neuter arsen is used here, but then in v13 he uses the masc arsena , which I would have expected him to use in v5 as well. That's what was confusing me. Thanks again

Re: Grammar question, genders don't agree
Just realized I should be more specific about what I'm looking for. I believe the general category I'm referring to is "concord," at least that's what Goetchius calls it. But I'm not sure where to find info on gender "concord" between an adj and a noun and how that relates to Rev...

Grammar question, genders don't agree
Been (slowly) working my way through Rev., it's been a challenge but rewarding. Right now I'm kind of stumped on 12.5 and hoping for some clarification. I'm reading in various commentaries (because I can't seem to locate the topic in a grammar) about the "odd" language where huion is masc....

Re: Relationship between eklegw and eklegomai
Thank you for your help in clarifying that. You're right, I probably wouldn't refer to the Gr word in most circumstances, I just want to be precise if the need arises. Thx again

Re: Relationship between eklegw and eklegomai
Thank you, that helps. So, when I'm referencing the word in a Bible study (as a for instance) I'd give the verb as eklegomai (as in BDAG), right?
I wonder why the concordance (Zondervan NASB exhaus. concord) only lists the older eklegw.
