Re: επι - Matt 14:14, 15:32; 4:6, 14:11
Since this thread has been revived I've been motivated to look at the data some more. [Matt 14:14] και εξελθων ο ιησους ειδεν πολυν οχλον και εσπλαγχνισθη επ αυτοις και εθεραπευσεν τους αρρωστους αυτων [Matt 15:32] ο δε ιησους προσκαλεσαμενος τους μαθητας αυτου ειπεν σπλαγχνιζομαι επι τον οχλον οτι ...

Re: Reading Josephus
See also the PACE site http://pace.mcmaster.ca/york/york/texts.htm, where you can read Greek and English on the same page (Brill translation where available with commentary, and Whiston). The Greek words are linked to Perseus.
PACE also has Polybius in the same format.

Re: first three principal parts of 'I depart'
So in the Mophologia booklet, we have a table for ὑπάγειν ᾽to be going away'. But in the aorist column and the future column is a note "lacking, use ἀπελθεῖν". As the example passage for this verb, the applicable words from Luke 19:30-32 are quoted, so that the user can see the word used ...

Re: 2 Timothy 3:6,7
Is there a way to make nouns diminutive with masculine and feminine endings? Yes, like παιδίσκη, but neuter diminutives are surely the commonest. Smyth has examples of diminutives, §852 and following. This article in JBL on diminutives in the NT may perhaps also be interesting. http://www.jstor.org...

Re: Words/Particles with De-Focusing force ?
I can see that γε may qualify as a particle that shades the meaning of an element in Greek, but I don't see how it "makes Information less important" or has "de-focusing force". The grammars seem to either profess to see no difference in meaning (BDF §439) or rather say the oppos...

Re: 2 Cor 1:9 ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ... ἐσχήκαμεν
FWIW Colin J Hemer, 'A Note on 2 Corinthians 1:9' Tyndale Bulletin Vol 23 1972 103-07 discusses ἀπόκριμα. This article is online at the Tyndale House website http://www.tyndale.cam.ac.uk/index.php?page=full-text-of-past-issues Thanks for that, Tony. It is a nice article in that it brings forth much...

Re: 2 Cor 1:9 ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ... ἐσχήκαμεν
This raises a question for me. What is the meaning of ἀπόκριμα? The glosses in BDAG, official report, decision , are not very clear but indicate something official. The LSJ glosses, judicial sentence, condemnation , also imply such a certain officialness that I would consider Iver's explanation abo...

Re: Matt 13:46 perfect πέπρακεν
To be sure, there may well be extenuating circumstances explaining this unusual use of the perfect. This verb πιπράσκω appears to have lost its aorist form in the Koine (it should have been ἔπρασεν), so maybe the perfect was simply the closest past-ish tense that was available to be used. ...
