Welcome Joe! I lived in the Springs for 5 years (I'm sure it's changed a bit since I lived there some 10+ years ago).

Re: Ephesians 2.8
I just noticed πίστεως is in the gen-sg-fem (Case-Number-Gender), while τοῦτο is in the nom-sg-neuter, so the antecedant of τοῦτο can't be πίστεως (since the pronoun must match its antecedant in Number-Gender).

Re: Why is τέκτονα pronounced as τέκ-το-να?
thanxs for the replies! I wonder, possibly, if may be the kappa is "blending" into the first syllable? (I'm not sure what the technical term is, but it's when a consonant seems to be pronounced in both the preceding syllable and the syllable it is suppose to be in). For example, try to pro...

Why is τέκτονα pronounced as τέκ-το-να?
My understanding is that the two consonants κ and τ form a pronounciable consonant cluster κτ because, for example, we have the Greek word κτίσις (creation) As such, should not τέκτονα be pronounced as τέ-κτο-να? If anyone has Buth's books, I'm getting the pronounciation in Book 2A, Lesson 5, Track ...

Re: pronouncing κηρύξω
The question is 'who are you listening to?'. We all tend to pronounce Greek in a way influenced by our first language. If you listen to Modern Greeks pronouncing Greek, λέ-ξεις and κη-ρύ-ξω is exactly how they pronounce it. I am not sure where you got "kay reik so" for κηρύξω, unless by '...

Re: pronouncing κηρύξω
I definitely have trouble with ξ. For example how about λέξεις. According to Smyth's rules (which pretty much agrees with the rules Mounce lists on p.17 of Basics of Biblical Greek (Ed 2) ), we would break that into λέ-ξεις but yet when I hear the word it sounds like the pronunciation is "lex-e...

Re: pronouncing κηρύξω
Thanxs for the info Stephen. So it almost seems like the syllabification of the word has the "original" letters: κηρύξω is the future tense: κηρύγ + σ + ω (γ + σ => ξ), but when you syllabify you break it down as κη-ρύγ-σω (I'm pretty sure the consonant cluster γσ cannot be pronounced toge...

pronouncing κηρύξω
Hi: Is there an "s" sound in κηρύξω? Is it pronounced "kay reik so"? I would have thought it would be pronounced "kay reik o" (i.e. no "s" sound on the third syllable). Another question I have on κηρύξω is how the word is broken up - I would have thought one w...
