130. The indefinite subject ‘one’. (1) The impersonal passive (Lat. itur ‘one goes’) is not common in the NT and was never extensively used in Greek generally. (2) For ‘one’ it is much more customary to employ the 3rd plur. (without subject). The range of ideas expressed by verbs so used has been e...

Re: Passive verbs + instrumental datives without ἐν
Your quotation of Wallace illustrates one of my chief complaints regarding his book. b. Key to Identification Before the dative insert the phrase because of or on the basis of. The way he tells the story, you have to translate it to know what the usage happens to be. I can translate something a numb...

Goodwin's Greek Grammar is on community pricing at Logos. You might want to place a bid on it, but you will need to create an account if you don't already have one. Re: Luke 8:23 συνεπληροῦντο
συνεπληροῦντο καὶ ἐκινδύνευον I would understand this as "they were being swamped and were endangered." Συνεπληροῦντο is a passive, and although ἐκινδύνευον is an active form it carries a passive meaning (I would tend to classify it as a stative—"they were in a state of danger").

Are you sure of that? What else would πολλούς be? Certainly not a noun.
