Re: Native speakers among the NT authours?
While someone might feel "emotional distance" I find myself wondering if its useful in this context? For example, I am 100% fluent and comfortable in Chinese when speaking with a 3 or 4 year old native Chinese speaker, and feel no "emotional distance" as such. (After a few years,...

Re: The role of the second clause and δε in John 21:1
Seeing the two clauses revealing "that" and "how" shows how both clauses have a clear role and purpose (I suspect I perhaps felt the second clause was redundant until you pointed this out), and furthermore, seeing that doing it this way makes the sentence simpler, also really hel...

The role of the second clause and δε in John 21:1
Working through John in Greek has been my first personal Greek reading project after first year Greek. When I first came across this verse, the last phrase stood out for me, as in, what is its role. It seems redundant in that it partially repeats the info from the first half of the verse. It seems s...

Re: Understanding copyright of personal greek translation wo
All of these are good points, but you may be convincing me that these may be even more reason for it. As far as I can tell, I suspect—based on some things I have seen from bible societies in mailing lists— that even a simple list of the differences between the 1904 and now, would be deemed a breech ...

Re: Understanding copyright of personal greek translation wo
Does this mean you think there are no discoveries between 1904 and now that are relevant for todays bible translation work? (By relevant, I mean relevant in that they might affect how we produce the english text?) If there have been discoveries that do affect the greek in a way that we would alter h...

Re: Greek fonts & keyboards for iOS
I also just use the greek polytonic keyboard as well, it gets me the important accents at least, quite quickly and easily. I also tried some custom keyboard app's but found them to be slow (5 second or greater) to switch to and from greek to english, which can be quite frustrating when you are typin...

Re: Suggestions for translation notes in software?
I don't think you are going to find software to check your notes. Here are a few things I noticed: κέκριται is medio-passive, the form is not κέκρικεν as you are supposing. ὀδηγήσει is a future form. "by himself" - does that mean a single person (μόνος)? I don't think the Greek has that i...

Re: Understanding copyright of personal greek translation wo
Knowing that the Nestle 1904 is unencumbered, I wonder how many people here would be interested in a public/wiki style project to update it based on modern scholarship? I suspect some academic decisions are perhaps easier to make within a committee than with a wiki style system, however if there was...

Re: Understanding copyright of personal greek translation wo
While being an aside to my question about the copyright issue. The first thing I tried reading in the FBV (Free bible version) was John 1:1, and I was put off by the very first verse, and didn't go much further than that. It translates it as: "In the beginning the word already was." I didn...
