διατελεῖν + ptc. Acts 27:33

Post by Stephen Hughes »

Rather than using the Lucan literary διατελεῖν + ptc."continue" (doing something), what would a low register construction in the (colloquial) Koine to express the same meaning be?

Naturally, if it is useful to the main question, we may like to consider whether and how the διατελεῖτε relates to the ἄσιτοι as well.

Hmm--

I like διατελεῖν ποιῶν.

With an implication of persistence one could also say ἐπιμένειν ποιῶν

Are you using the literary λυσιτελεῖ τινί (colloquially) or just sticking with (the work-a-day) συμφέρει τινί?

ἔχει τὸ διατελεῖν ποιῶν συχνότητα ἢ διάρκειαν ὡς βασικὴν (κυρίαν) ἔννοιαν;

(Is frequency or duration the basic (main) sense of διατελεῖν + ptc.?)
( ἴσως here = "perhaps" not "equally")
(διάρκεια "duration" not just "sufficiency" LSJ lacks a definition for this meaning but cf. LSJ διαρκέω I.2. Something like "enough to get you through")
