εἶτα, ἔπειτα, κᾆτα, κἄπειτα as interrogatives in Hellenistic

Post by Jonathan Robie »

Are these forms used as interrogatives in Hellenistic Greek? I couldn't find examples of such usage in the GNT or LXX (both words are used in other ways).
Smyth wrote:2653. εἶτα and ἔπειτα (more emphatic κᾆτα, κἄπειτα) introduce questions expressing surprise, indignation, irony, etc.; and often indicate a contrast between what a person has or has not done and what is or was to be expected of him. Thus, εἶτα πῶς οὐκ εὐθὺς ἐπήγειράς με; then why did you not rouse me at once? P. Cr. 43b.

Smyth is not saying they are interrogatives, just some marker of surprise, etc., in question. In the example, πῶς is the interrogative.
