Is it possible that one or more traditional verbal endings became [to-be] as in simple fusion of koine Greek words (via one or another author's pen)?

No. The source of the participial ending -μενος was already present in the language ancestral to Greek (Proto-Indo-European) and it had a different phonetic shape than the PIE source for μένω (i.e., the former has a laryngeal and the latter does not).
