Adjectives ending in -ειδής or --ώδης are very numerous. LSJ lists 524 words ending in -ειδής and 1102 ending in --ώδης. I don't see where Smyth talks about this. Both adjectives mean 'like', 'like in appearance' or similar ilk or extension thereof. What is the derivation of these endings? What words do they come from? εἶδον?
