Lexical entry question

Post by Alan Bunning »

This question arose in creating headwords for my project at http://greekcntr.org and I am looking for some feedback. For adjectives whose neuter case can be used an adverb, would you rather see them listed as separate lexical entries (like Dodson does), or tucked under the lexical entry for the adjective (like BDAG does). In other words, would you rather see something like this:

μονον, adv.

μονοσ, η, ον, adj.

or this:

μονοσ, η, ον
1. adj.
2. adv. (neuter only)

There are only about 40 of these so I could go either way.

Can you hyperlink from an adverb entry to the adjectival one?

Are the adverbs in your list used in syntactic constructions (such with the dative) as the adject is, or are they always used as single words?

Since my post, I am now leaning toward making them separate lexical entries with links as you suggest. The parsing information contains some syntactic elements, and the rest will be left for syntax trees.

Are they all neuter singulars in your list?

Yes.
(Serious not suggestive question) Are there NT examples of adverbial neuter plurals?

(Suggestion) If there are, consistency and inclusivity might be valuable.

There could be, but I don't know of any that are tucked under an adjective entry in a lexicon like they do with the neuter singular adjectives.

I haven't been following this thread; I'm just jumping in because today I was commenting on Isaiah 40:2 where we find adverbial διπλᾶ, and this form appears also in Revelation.

I think the neuter plural πολλά also has some adverbial uses.

It appears in Rev. 18:6, but most people call it an adjective there.
