Dear Mike,

I think it would be a good idea even in the Project Section of this forum. In fact, I was going to ask Jonathan Robie about a discussion about Greek Prepositions specifically, EK...EIS... as it is used in Romans 1:17; II Corinthians 2:16 (2x); APO...EIS as used in II Corinthians 3:18. I have a 10 page paper listing relevant verses (?) in the LXX, Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha and NT of possibilities as how the combination of prepositions is used. I would like to submit to the list for input.

Can this be discussed in public? Do you need a place to put the paper?

Well, this particular project won't be "officially" starting until the 2011-12 school year (hopefully). Right now we're aiming for having a first issue ready by the spring, but there's still a lot of coordination to be done with professors and other people.

But I'm sure we could look at your paper here. Perhaps in the Greek language and linguistics section in the forum (would that be best, Jonathan?).

Dear Jonathan and Mike,

1. It can be discussed in public.

2. If Mike wants to discuss it on the Linguistic side of Greek is fine with me.

3. The font used is Arial Unicode MS. Should it be changed to a different font? I tried to copy and paste a verse into a reply, but not all the letters appeared. So what font should be used? It is NOT a pdf file, but in .doc.

4. My main reason for this Project section is that the use of EK...EIS...in Romans & II Corinthians would reflect its usage in the LXX, Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha and Classical Greek. Using Logos Bible Software I was able to go through each verse that the combination appears and then listed what I thought would match the combination found in Romans & II Corinthians.
It is that list (10 pages) that I would upload and be checked to verify accuracy of the relevant verses. Then from that postulate a theory as to the meaning of the combination in contrast to APO...EIS. Does EK...EIS mean "out of...to...," "out of...toward...," "from...to...," "from...toward...," or is it the same as APO...EIS...?"

5. In terms of methodology. I searched through the 4700+ times that EK...EIS and APO...EIS... is found. I then separated the times where there was no prepositions intervening between EK...EIS and APO...EIS..., e.g. EK...EN...EIS... or APO...PROS...EIS..., ETC. I also included listings of EK (additional wording with or without article) EIS (additional wording with or without article).

Thanks,

Hi Bryant,

Can you lead this discussion a little? What would you like to discuss with respect to how these prepositions combine in these texts? What do you think you have learned from these searches?

From my initial look, it appears that the use of EK...EIS has the idea out of one location with movement to another location. This would have the idea of moving out of the middle or midst of a geographical location and movement toward another location. APO...EIS would have a similar idea.
