Christmas Songs / Hymns

Hello,

I'm teaching my oldest son Greek in our homeschool, and he asked if we could sing some traditional American Christmas or Advent hymns. I've studied Greek in seminary, and am somewhat competent in the NT, but looking for resources like this is new to me. Surely there's a website somewhere I've just not found yet? Thanks!

Look at http://www.letsreadgreek.com/songs/default.htm. There are currently no Christmas songs. The web page is a little out of date (it's my site and there are a whole slew of songs not posted). Do you have any requests? I know of no other site than mine which deals with songs. Mounce has a couple in his new edition, I hear.

Here's a try at Silent Night:

Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace!
Sleep in heavenly peace!

Here is a variation:

Any suggestions?

Anyone know good musical settings of Μέγα καί παράδοξον θαύμα?

If not, I may try my hand at setting it to music. It would be worth mining Christmas liturgical texts to create hymns.

Check out
Irby-Massie, Georgia. 2009. "That Ain't Workin'; That's the Way You Do It: Teaching Greek through Popular Music." Teaching Classical Languages 1.1: 30-66. http://www.tcl.camws.org/fall2009/TCL_I ... Massie.pdf

She has written a number of Attic Greek songs for teaching the ancient language. The Twelve Days of Christmas is one. (Her pdf is not in Unicode, so you cannot cut and paste the Greek)

[alt.
