I'm sure someone has already asked this, but I'm looking for the exercise answers to the Machen 2nd Ed. textbook to help in my studies. Any ideas if it exists?

In the archives...

There are also answers in "Study Guide for J.Greham Machen's New Testament
Greek for Beginners" by David L. Thompson. It is still in print and a VERY
helpful guide to the textbook.

I've not seen the book myself

May I ask why you need it? If you are in a class, your professor should be able to correct your answers. If you are not in a class, there are better ways and textbooks to pursue your studies.

This appears to be keyed to the orignal Machen, not the revised edition. As I recall from tutoring a student with the revised edition (I taught out of the original at WTS for 4 years), some of the excercises are quite different, but my memory of this is old, and may not be accurate. And, with all due respect, how can you recommend a text you've never seen?

The recommendation was from the original poster. I tried to indicate that but it seems I was a bit unclear. Sorry.

Ah, ok, I missed that, my apologies.

I know this isn't exactly on topic for the post but I second this statement. I worked through Machen in self-study (using Thompson for the answer key) and after completing the entire book I felt like I was still at a low-beginner level. My top recommendation now is Groton's From Alpha to Omega.

There was an answer key to the original Machen text. I have a copy of it. It is called "Learn or review New Testament Greek answers to the exercises in New Testament Greek by J. Gresham Machen. It was compiled by Spiros Zodhiates. AMG Peblishers Chattanooga Tn 37421. I found it very helpful when I took a Greek in Seminary. I used it only to check my work and if I made a mistake I would learn why. I'm sure it is out of print but you might find copies on the internet. Keep in mind it is not for the second edition. I found a few mistakes in it as I was taking the course and corrected them in my book.

I'm always astounded that Machen's old clunker is still circulating. Those exercises were composed with something akin to the notion that Biblical Greek is a curious dialect of Elizabethan English.

Mentioning Machen on this forum is like asking a New York art critic about Andrew Weyth.

So - with objections noted about the "clunker" Machen - recommend another.
