Introductory Course Based on Pharr

Post by Barry Hofstetter » June 12th, 2014, 10:45 am

For those wanting an online course using the Pharr Homeric Greek approach. As part of a survey course, I recently taught a section where we read selections from the Odyssey. It struck me that the Greek was actually quite easy once metrics and odd vocabulary were considered. I wonder if that's one reason why the Romans normally started Greek instruction with Homer? :)

I don't have anything to say about this course in particular, but I learned Greek first with Pharr, who starts with the Iliad. I really enjoyed reading as soon as possible one of the greatest pieces of human literature ever in the "original."
