Latin quis/qui, Greek τις/τίς

Post by cwconrad »

BMCR 2015.04.17 presents an interesting review of Camille Denizot, Emmanuel Dupraz (ed.), Latin quis/qui, grec τις/τίς: parcours et fonctionnements. Études sur deux interrogatifs-indéfinis-relatifs. , a sequence of papers on various aspects of the interrogative and indefinite pronominal forms derived from the same Proto-Indo-European stem *kwi-/*kwo-. Of course, those of this forum interested in Latin and particularly in the language of the Vulgate will find more of interest here than will those more narrowly interested in Greek usage.
οὔτοι ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς πάντα θεοὶ θνητοῖς ὑπέδειξαν,
ἀλλὰ χρόνῳ ζητέοντες ἐφευρίσκουσιν ἄμεινον. (Xenophanes, Fragment 16)
