That dialect map of Greece proper is a small window of a larger Greek-speaking diaspora. Here is a map illustrating a probable estimate of the extent of Greek colonisation in 550 BC. The dialect situation in the colonies is not so straightforward as in Greece where dialect is more or less synonymous with topolect.
