Hello all, my name is Thomas MacMillan (Thom for short), and I'm a second-year Ancient Greek student and senior at the University of California, Davis. UCD uses a quarter system, so I'm currently in my 5th quarter of Ancient Greek. The Classics Department offers one lower division series (Greek 1-3), which is taught from Athenaze, a class that serves as an introduction to upper division study, and one class a quarter on individual authors. Last quarter I learned from a textbook that offers the Symposium with vocabulary lists, grammatical notes, and a glossary. This quarter I read Book 8 of the Odyssey. Next quarter I will read from Euripides' Bacchae. When I do get the time to pick up the καινὴ διαθήκη I've found that my education in Attic Greek provides a very solid foundation for reading koine. I currently am on staff with a local church leading worship, and as of September I will be working on campus with a missionary/missionary-sending organization called Cru (formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ). I'm looking forward to a lifetime of ministry, and hopefully a lifetime of reading Ancient Greek as well!
