My name is Phillip Hall, and I am an MDiv. student at Virginia Beach Theological Seminary. I am hoping to complete a Thm. in New Testament studies. I really enjoy studying the GNT, and intend to learn all I can.

Philip,

Welcome to B-Greek. Can you tell us about how you are studying Greek? What book are you using? What are your interests?

I first started studying Greek in college at a small Bible school in Wisconsin (Northland International University) back in 2004. We used a curriculum published by another college that was based on rote memorization of paradigms. Then I was exposed to Wallace in an exegesis course in 2005.
After graduation of college in 2007, I was re-introduced to Greek basics in seminary via Mounce. Mounce's work on Greek morphemes provided a catalogue in my memory to remember the paradigms. After Mounce, I was introduced to Levinsohn's Discourse Analysis and Campbell's introduction to verbal aspect. I am just finishing up Runge's discourse grammar, and then I hope to go through Levinsohn a third time, as well as Wallace and Campbell.

Greek used to be a mere requirement, but after going through Levinsohn a 2nd time, and being influenced by a professor with regards to discourse analysis, it has become a joy and delight. The ingenuity and artistry of the original authors has captured my attention.

My main interest with regards to the Greek language is discourse analysis. Something that has really got my attention recently are verbless clauses. I have been wondering what discourse function they might serve in the text. Once I get more grounded in d.a., I hope to explore chiasms as well. In the process, I'm sure more interests will come up. I count it a joy and privilege to be a part of this forum!
