Didache 12:1 and Commentary?

Post by Tim Evans »

Hi Everyone,

First my specific question:

It seems that there are some interesting variations on how to translate certain passages in the Didache. Does this seem reasonable clunky English? Aside from intuition, is there support anywhere for taking "right and left" as "right and wrong":

"Then testing him, you will recognise/know (if he is of the Lord), for you have understanding—right and left.

Finally, is there a good "go to" resource for these type of questions in the Didache?

Just one quibble with the translation: ἕξετε is future.

As for right/left, that seems to be the consensus. Here's one example.

Thanks, thats a silly mistake.

The left-hand toilet wiping thing is not something I had associated with biblical times! Interesting, I will have to look into that.
