Basic Vocabulary

How can I best learn new vocabulary items? What aids are there and what pitfalls should be avoided? How does a beginner learn to use a lexicon?

Basic Vocabulary

A good basic vocabulary is necessary for reading the NT.
For those who have completed one year or more of Greek, what is the minimum vocabulary?
My suggestion is the following lists which include both Greek-to-English and English-to-Greek:

What criterion did you use for that list?

Does this correspond to something like "all words used 30 or more times in the Greek New Testament"?

I used the vocab found in Samuel G. Green A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO NEW TESTAMENT GREEK along with a number of words used in my primer.
While the 30 most frequent words are a good choice, I didn't check to see how they compare.
If I get some time, I may incorporate them.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm open to other list suggestions.
Perhaps there should be a separate list for each NT book.
I don't think I have that much spare time to compose such lists.

There are plenty of published and online resources for NT vocabulary, if such lists are going to help you learn to read the Greek better.

Of course, Trenchard and Metzger for traditionally published material.
