ἀπεκδέχομαι in the NT

How can I best learn new vocabulary items? What aids are there and what pitfalls should be avoided? How does a beginner learn to use a lexicon?

ἀπεκδέχομαι in the NT

Post by Mason Barge » May 27th, 2015, 11:06 am

I have been trying to extract the meaning of Galatians 5:5 and the kappa in ἀπεκδέχομαι puzzles me, especially since there is a verb ἀποδέχομαι with much the same lexical range. Most of the "ἀπεκ-" verbs take the kappa, or even the epsilon-kappa, from the following root verb.

I'd be happy of any help with understanding this. In the NT, only Paul uses it, except for one occurrence in Hebrews. (New evidence that Paul actually did write Hebrews? - only 99% kidding!)

Is this simply a crasis of άπο- and έκ-? Or is there a more arcane morphology involved here, if anybody knows?

Also note the related forms outlined for δέχομαι in the previous post:

cf. ἀνα-, ἀπο, δια-, εἰσ-, ἐκ-, ἀπ-εκ-, ἐν-, ἐπι-, παρα-, προσ-, ὑπο-δέχομαι
