Different tenses/aspects in John 6:35

Post by PhillipLebsack »

John 6:35 ⸀Εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ ἄρτος τῆς ζωῆς· ὁ ἐρχόμενος πρὸς ἐμὲ οὐ μὴ πεινάσῃ, καὶ ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ⸀ἐμὲ οὐ μὴ ⸀διψήσει πώποτε.

πεινάσῃ --> Verb: Aorist Active Subjunctive 3rd Person Singular

διψήσει --> Verb: Future Active Indicative 3rd Person Singular

Why are the tenses/aspects different here? The constructions for the participles and negatives particles are exactly the same...

Daniel Wallace explains the nuance:
...while οὐ μή + the indicative denies a certainty, οὐ μή + the subjunctive denies a potentiality./quote].
