How do I work out the meaning of a Greek text? How can I best understand the forms and vocabulary in this particular text?

newbie..how do I type my verse in greek?

Post by James Bell »

I have an english keyboard, I want to type Hebrews 8:13 to ask a question about it. I'm not a computer geek. I've got a e-machine computer if that helps.

1) Type it with betacode... http://typegreek.com

2) Or copy it from an online text (Google "Greek Hebrews 8", there are a few, just check any older text doesn't have some unusual variant) ...
13 ἐν τῷ λέγειν Καινὴν πεπαλαίωκεν τὴν πρώτην· τὸ δὲ παλαιούμενον καὶ γηράσκον ἐγγὺς ἀφανισμοῦ.
3) Also, your computer may have a polytonic Greek keyboard layout; that will be the best approach in the long run.

If you have a PC, go to Control Panel, select Change Keyboard, Select Greek (Greece), Greek Polytonic.
Hit Add
When you are in a document, or this forum, hit Alt+Shift to toggle between English (EN) and Greek (EL).
The letters EN or EL should appear at the bottom right corner to show you which language you are in.
The same procedure can be used to get Hebrew or most other language characters
