How can I learn to express my ideas in clear and intelligible Greek?

ITW:3 οὐ μόνον ... (1 verb c. 2 diff. obj.s)

Post by Stephen Hughes »

In this third Inviation to Write, we could try using οὐ μόνον ... ἀλλὰ καὶ ... with a single verbs followed by two different objects, this will be a good stepping-stone to further more complex constructions. The first object is the more reasonable or expected one.

Here are three sentences that I have made with some variations to them.
"The wolf eats not only the flesh but also the bones."
"The wolves ate not only the livestock but also the graziers"
"The carless farm-hand uproots not only the weeds, but also the grain."
"The carless farm-hand incinerates not only the weeds, but also the grain."
"The careless farm-hand incinerates not only the chaff, but also the grain (seeds)."
"The careless farm-hand harvests (mows down) not only the crop, but also the fence."
"The soldiers plundered not only the temples, but also the houses."
"The soldiers razed not only the temple, but also the praetorium."
"The soldiers endured not only sunburn, but also extreme cold."
I hope that others could append their attempts or comments below. Most of the benefit of this exercise comes from re-working and re-expressing.
